Organic Sleep Products has made the decision to drop Land and Sky organics from their product selection as of February 1, 2008.  The decision was largely based on Land and Sky's decision in October of 2007 to raise their prices significantly on their 3 organic models - Meadow, Rainforest and Heaven and Earth.

In their decision, OSP stated that the prior positioning of the Land and Sky mattresses - as a "crossover" organic product - was sacrificed with the price increase, seriously lowering their overall consumer value and resulting in plumeting sales. 

The beds, available online through The Natural Bed Store, feature a certified organic cotton cover, but that is the current extent of their organic materials. 

"We felt that Land and Sky was perfectly placed as an entry level organic bed, with an above average feel for that catagory" stated OSP.  "That position was sacrificed in an effort to compete with manufacturers offering a higher level of certification."

There was the problem.  Brands such as Natura and Green Sleep are certified to European Eco Standards, whereas Land and Sky relies on the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) standard for organic, a significantly lower standard to meet.  Consumers receive significantly higher quality products from these manufactures, at approximately the same prices Land and Sky are charging dealers and consumers for their products.

Indeed, even other U.S. manfacturers such as Lifekind and Vivetique, also known as The Natural Bedroom, are offering higher organic standards of products at the same price levels.

OSP also cited their desire to offer their customers products that are appropriately priced, and in most cases good values, for their dollar.  In this case, the Land and Sky products did not fit this phylosophy.

OSP will continue to offer Green Sleep and Natura products as well as their own private label line.
